Talking without the network

Horizon An idea with sources behind it and nothing built. Published so it can be argued with.

LoRa carries very little data a very long way for very little power. A community of nodes covering a city is a way to send messages when there is no internet and no mobile signal, and the hardware is cheap.

The goal for this area is narrow and practical: to find out what a person in Europe buys, where it is mounted, and what it delivers.

Why this sits next to the brick

A device built to work without a network needs somewhere to send its messages. This area and the brick depend on each other.

What is not known here

The open items for this project. Work on it starts here.

  • No hardware has been researched, no coverage checked and no costs gathered. So far this area is a title and a reason.
  • Helium-style incentive networks: how much of that model is real in Europe is unknown here.
